The present-day brick and stone building dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries. It was built on the remains of the former fortress by the Laval-Montmorency family. Chennebrun was one of the castles that used to protect Normandy against France on the border that separated the Duchy of Normandy and the Kingdom of France.
The fortification wall and the watchtowers of the old castle are still visible today.
