In the Pays d’Auge, visit the church in Cormeilles, a church that goes up to heaven!

Saint Croix's Church dates back to the 11th century but has been remodelled in the 15th and 18th centuries. It has a distinctive feature, which is unique Normandy: there is a gentle slope from the nave up to the altar. Inside, have a look at the enclosed pews, witnesses to the inhabitants' daily lives: numbers on the door, missal boxes, hat hooks, etc. The framework is shaped like an inverted boat hull. From the church, you can go for a walk along the Mont du Bourg promenade with its hundred-year-old horse chestnuts and its pretty view over the village and the Pays d’Auge.

The church has what is called an "allée des Impies" (the unrighteous alley) where the prisoners who wanted to attend mass gathered…
