The ruins of Mortemer Abbey are tucked away in the peaceful and quiet forest of Lyons. Founded in the 12th century by Henry Beauclerc, first Duke of Normandy, it accommodated Cistercian monks who came for the tranquillity of place, ideal to pray and rest.
This place of worship disappeared in 1790 when the last monks were banished, hunted down and then slaughtered by revolutionaries. Legend has it that they still haunt the place...
