In the heart of the Pays de Lyons-Andelle and the Vexin Normand region, 20 km (12 miles) away from Rouen, visit a listed country house now converted into an art and history centre that holds major exhibitions of renowned artists and has a packed programme of events, with the memory of the historian Jules Michelet (1798-1874) who loved, lived and wrote in this house, a family property for five generations.
His study has been exactly recreated at the top of the medieval tower dating back to the 12th century and a museum gathers memorabilia that honour his memory in an outbuilding.
Remarkable 17th century dovecote with revolving ladder. The English style park and the French-formal garden from 1774 hold an exceptional permanent collection of more than 60 works of art made by major 20th century artists.
