Birth of Heritage Days in France
The Heritage Days were created on the initiative of the Ministry of Culture in 1984 under the name of “Open day in historical monuments”. Faced with the success of the first editions, this day was extended to two days on Saturday and Sunday to be called “National Heritage Days” in 1992. At the same time (1991), the European Union launched the European Heritage Days for may this heritage festival reach as many people as possible.
Since 1995, a publishing theme has been introduced within the framework of the days to make heritage known in a different and sometimes unusual way.
